Motorcycle Storage – Frequently Asked Questions

Can I store any type of motorcycle?

Yes. We store all types of motorcycles — from classic vintage machines and modern superbikes to touring bikes, scramblers, and customs. If your bike has special requirements (a particularly long wheelbase, trailer assistance, or a sensitive finish), just let us know during enquiry and we’ll accommodate accordingly.

How do I access my motorcycle during storage?

Access is available by arrangement with 24 hours’ notice. Simply contact us and we’ll have your bike ready for collection at the agreed time. For genuine emergencies, we’ll always do our best to help.

Is my motorcycle insured while it's with you?

Your motorcycle should remain covered under your existing insurance policy during storage. We can provide documentation about our facility’s security credentials if required by your insurer. We recommend confirming your own policy covers stored vehicles — many do as standard.

What's the difference between secure indoor and dehumidified storage for bikes?

Both options offer full indoor, secure storage in our purpose-built facility. The dehumidified tier adds active humidity management, meaning the environment is continuously monitored and controlled to prevent moisture build-up. For classic motorcycles, chrome-heavy builds, and bikes with sensitive electrics or leather, this is the tier we’d always recommend.

Can you collect my motorcycle?

Yes, we can arrange collection for your motorcycle. Speak to our team when you enquire and we’ll discuss the options and any associated costs based on your location.

Why bikes suffer more than cars in storage

A car keeps most of its metal behind panels. A motorcycle keeps almost all of it in the open, which is why the same damp garage that leaves a car looking tired will leave a bike looking neglected.

Fork stanchions are the first casualty. Polished chrome or titanium nitride over steel, permanently exposed, and any pitting there means new fork legs or a rebuild rather than a polish. Discs surface-rust within days in damp air and bond to the pads if the bike sits with the brakes applied. Chains stiffen and rust between the plates where lubricant has migrated away. Fasteners bloom, and on an older bike the aluminium under them corrodes electrolytically where steel meets alloy.

None of that happens because the bike is fragile. It happens because it is standing in air nobody is managing.

How we store bikes

Bikes go into the same humidity-managed hall as the cars, held at 55% relative humidity. Above 60% the corrosion above begins; below 45% seals, hoses and the leather in a seat dry and harden.

  • Stored on a stand where the machine allows it, taking weight off the tyres and the suspension
  • Chain cleaned and lubricated before it goes in, not after it comes out
  • Battery on an automatic conditioner — a modern bike with an immobiliser will flatten one in weeks
  • Tyre pressures raised to reduce flat-spotting
  • Fuel topped up to reduce the air space in the tank, which is where condensation forms
  • A visual check every day it is with us

We store everything from vintage British singles and Japanese classics through to current superbikes and adventure bikes. A bike takes considerably less floor space than a car, and it is stored properly rather than wedged into whatever gap is left.

Winter storage, which is what most people want

Most bike enquiries are seasonal: away in October, back in March or April. Those are precisely the months that do the damage — road salt in the air even if the bike never goes out in it, weeks of damp, and the overnight temperature swings that drive condensation onto cold metal.

Six months with us on the standard tier is £900 including VAT. Against that, a set of pitted fork stanchions alone is commonly £400 to £900 to put right, and a corroded chain and sprocket set £150 to £300. The sum tends to work.

The other half of it is what you get back in spring. A bike that has been conditioned, kept dry and checked is ready to ride. A bike that has spent the winter under a tarpaulin usually needs a battery, a chain, a service and an afternoon before it is pleasant to use.

Cost, access and getting the bike here

Motorbike rates are shown in the pricing panel above, and every tier includes VAT. The minimum stay is one month. We collect within 65 miles of Stalybridge at no extra charge, which covers all of Greater Manchester and Cheshire and reaches Liverpool, Leeds and Sheffield. For a bike that is off the road, or that you would rather not ride in November, that matters more than it does for a car.Access is by arrangement with 24 hours’ notice, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Come and see the building first — the team page tells you who you would be dealing with.

Motorbike Storage Over Winter

Most bike enquiries are seasonal. The machine goes away in October and comes back in March, and those are precisely the months that do the damage.

What happens to a bike left in a cold garage from autumn to spring, and how it should be prepared instead, is set out in our guide to winter motorcycle storage.

Collection is included within 65 miles of Stalybridge, so the bike never rides through November weather to get here. Reserve a space or call 0161 464 7494.
