What the pre-storage wash is for
Every car is washed before it goes into a bay, and it is not cosmetic. Traffic film, road salt, brake dust, tree sap and bird lime are all mildly corrosive, and all of them keep working on paint and brightwork for as long as they are left there. Six months under a cover with salt still on the sills does measurable damage.
The car is then left to dry completely before it is covered. A car put away damp stays damp, and a breathable cover over a wet panel traps moisture against the paint rather than letting it go.
That wash and dry is stages four and six of the eight-stage intake, and it is included for every vehicle regardless of tier.
Detailing, beyond the intake wash
Where an owner wants more than preservation, we arrange it. Typically:
- Machine paint correction — removing swirls and light scratches rather than filling them, which is what a cheap polish does
- Ceramic and sealant protection, applied to properly decontaminated paint so it lasts
- Interior deep clean — leather cleaned and fed, which matters particularly on a car that has been standing
- Engine bay presentation, done carefully rather than with a pressure washer
- Wheels off for cleaning and sealing the barrels as well as the faces
The two most common reasons people ask are a car going to a show or a concours, and a car about to be sold. In the second case the work usually pays for itself several times over.
Timing it around storage
The most useful time to detail a stored car is shortly before it comes out, not when it goes in. The car has been dry and untouched for months, so paint correction lasts, and you collect a car that is ready rather than one that needs a weekend.
Tell us when you want the car and we will have the work finished for that date. Access is by arrangement with 24 hours’ notice, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, and we can deliver the finished car back to you anywhere within 65 miles at no extra charge.

Cleaning Before Storage, Not Just After
Road salt, bird lime and brake dust keep working on paint the entire time a car sits still. A cover over a dirty car makes it worse rather than better.
