What a supercar needs that an ordinary car does not

Three things, and none of them are about prestige.

Space to be handled. Wide bays, doors that open fully without touching the car alongside, and a flat approach into the building. Most damage to low cars in storage happens on the way in and out — a splitter on a ramp lip, a door edge on a pillar. Ask any facility how wide the bays are and whether the entrance is level before you ask anything else.

Electronics that never fully sleep. A modern performance car with an alarm, a tracker and a dozen control modules draws current constantly. Left alone for six weeks it can flatten a battery far enough that modules lose their settings, and on some cars that means a dealer visit to wake it up again. A conditioner is not optional on this kind of vehicle; it is basic maintenance.

Access on your terms. Supercars come out three or four times over a summer, not once a year. A facility that treats retrieval as an imposition is the wrong choice however good the building is. Ours needs 24 hours’ notice, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, and the car is washed, uncovered and on running pressures when you arrive.

The cars we look after

Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Aston Martin, Bentley, Porsche and the faster end of the German saloon market, alongside a steady population of modern classics that are appreciating rather than depreciating.

Greater Manchester and Cheshire have one of the densest concentrations of this kind of car outside the South East. The Alderley Edge and Wilmslow belt in particular, and increasingly the Bowdon and Hale side of Trafford. Most of our supercar customers come from a twenty to forty minute radius, and a good number never drive to us at all because collection within 65 miles is included.

Bays are individual. Cars are not parked nose to tail under shared dust sheets, which is worth checking wherever you end up.

Humidity, and why 55% is the number

Carbon fibre does not corrode, but almost everything attached to it does. Brake discs, suspension hardware, exhaust systems, fasteners and the steel in a hybrid chassis all react to damp air the same way an older car does. Interiors suffer faster, not slower — Alcantara and unfinished leather absorb moisture readily.

Our managed area sits at 55% relative humidity. Above 60% corrosion begins; below 45% leather and Alcantara dry out and stiffen. Fifty-five is the middle of that band, and it is monitored rather than estimated.

If a facility describes itself as climate controlled, ask for the number and how it is measured. A thermostat on a heater is temperature control, which is a different thing and in some respects a worse one.

Cost, terms and getting the car to us

Storage is £150 a month for the first three months and £165 thereafter on the standard indoor tier, or £200 then £225 with managed humidity. Both figures include VAT. For a supercar we would normally recommend the managed tier.

Minimum stay is one month with no long tie-in. Collection and delivery within 65 miles is included, which covers all of Greater Manchester and Cheshire and reaches Liverpool, Leeds and Sheffield. Enclosed transport can be arranged beyond that radius.
