Six people, and you can meet all of them
Pitstop 66 is not a franchise or a unit rented from a self-storage chain. Six of us run it: two founders, one person who takes every arriving car through the intake, two in the workshop, and one who keeps the building to the standard owners expect to walk into.
You can see who they are, what they do and what they drive on the about page. That matters more than it sounds. When you ring, you get one of six people who know which car is yours, rather than a call centre and a reference number.
What we do that a cheaper facility does not
Four things, and all four are checkable.
The air is managed, and we will tell you the number. Our humidity-controlled area is held at 55% relative humidity and monitored continuously. Above 60% steel corrodes; below 45% leather and rubber dry and crack. Most facilities describing themselves as climate controlled are describing a heater.
Somebody physically looks at every car, every day. Not a camera — a person walking the floor. It is how a slow tyre, a coolant weep or a rodent in an airbox gets caught in a week rather than in April.
Eight stages before the car goes into a bay. Condition photographed, keys tagged, interior protected, washed, pressures raised, air dried, battery and fluids checked, discs cleaned. Every car, whatever it is worth.
A workshop on site. Sam and Damian have worked together more than thirty years. Anything that emerges while a car is with us gets dealt with without the car leaving the building.
The clubhouse
Steve built it. Sam’s Land Rover Series 3, thirty years in his family, sits in it. It is where owners tend to end up when they come to drop a car off and stay longer than they intended.
As far as we know no other storage facility near Manchester has one. It exists because we wanted somewhere to sit with the cars, and it turns out customers want that too. You are welcome in it.
What it costs, and what we will not do
£150 a month for the first three months and £165 thereafter on the standard indoor tier. £200 then £225 with managed humidity. VAT included in both. One month minimum, no long tie-in, and collection within 65 miles at no extra charge.
What we will not do is sell you the premium tier for a two-month stay in a modern car that does not need it. Tell us the vehicle and how long it is going away for and we will say which one we would use.
