The short version

A bike left standing is a bike deteriorating

Bikes suffer worse than cars when parked: less metal, more of it exposed, batteries a fraction of the size — and thieves like them more, too.

Theft risk is real

Around 1,400 powered two-wheelers were stolen in the UK in December 2025 alone — roughly 45 a day. A gated site with monitored alarms and 24/7 CCTV takes your bike off that list.

Damp eats bikes first

Chrome pits, fasteners fur up, discs rust and switchgear corrodes — a Manchester winter in a shed or single garage does visible damage in one season. At ≈55% humidity, it simply stops.

Small batteries die fast

A bike battery left unattended sulphates within weeks. Ours go straight onto an automatic tender, so the bike starts on the button when you want it.

Fuel & rubber degrade

Modern fuel goes stale and tyres flat-spot on cold floors. Storage-pressure tyres and lay-up prep keep both in shape.

Space & hassle

No garage? Hallways, gardens and rented lock-ups aren't places for a bike you care about. Ours live indoors, spaced, covered and logged.

Standing faults

Seized brakes, perished seals, gummed carbs — standing damage costs more than storage. Daily checks catch problems while they're still small.

The honest comparison

A container is cheap. It's also just a metal box.

Around Manchester, basic bike storage — a shared container or rented garage — runs £35–£50 a month. Here’s what that money doesn’t buy:

What your bike gets Container / lock-up £35–£50/mo Pitstop 66 from £150/mo
Humidity control (≈55% RH) — stops rust & chrome pitting
Automatic battery tender connected
✓ included
Breathable bike cover fitted
✓ supplied
Daily checks by people who ride
24/7 CCTV + monitored alarm + gated site
Sometimes CCTV rarely monitored
✓ all three
Lay-up prep: wash, dry, tyres, brakes, ID tag
✓ 8-step process

If you just need somewhere to leave a bike, a container is fine. If the bike matters — classic, sports, adventure, custom — this is the difference between storing it and looking after it.

What's included

Every bike gets the full lay-up — then daily care

Winter lay-up · October–April

Parking the bike up for winter? Do it properly this year.

Gritting season in Greater Manchester runs October to April — salty roads, short days, and months of damp for a bike to sit through. Riders who lay up with us in autumn get their bike back in spring started, charged, clean and ready for the first dry weekend.

Book in autumn

September–October is the rush. Reserve early and we can collect the bike before the first grit goes down.

Sleep through winter

Tender on, humidity controlled, checked daily. Fancy a dry-day blast in January? 24 hours’ notice and it’s ready.

Ride out in spring

Healthy battery, correct pressures, clean bike. Add a service or MOT before pickup and it’s genuinely ready for the season.

Motorbike storage FAQs

Is the battery tender really included?

Yes — every stored bike goes onto an automatic conditioner as part of the standard price. It cycles properly (not just trickle), so the battery stays healthy for months, and it’s one of the first things we check daily.

Can I take my bike out mid-winter?

Absolutely. Access is by arrangement with 24 hours’ notice all year round. Tell us you fancy Sunday, and it’ll be off the tender, pressures checked and ready to ride.

What bikes do you store?

Everything from modern sports and adventure bikes to classics, customs and show bikes. Non-runners and project bikes are welcome too — we’ll lay them up just as carefully.

Why is this dearer than a container?

Because a container is unheated, unmonitored and empty. £85/month here includes humidity control, a connected battery tender, a breathable cover, the 8-step lay-up, daily checks and a monitored, gated site — the things that actually stop a bike deteriorating. It’s storage plus care, not just space.

Is there a minimum term?

Flexible — many riders store October to April (about 6 months), others stay year-round and just take the bike out for good weather. Short-term storage while moving house or travelling works too.
