Winter Car Storage Dukinfield
Pitstop 66 is in Stalybridge, just across the Tame from Dukinfield. Two miles, five minutes, same borough, no motorway involved. For most of Dukinfield it is a shorter run than the weekly supermarket trip.
Whether that matters depends on what you are storing and where in the town you keep it. Dukinfield is split by height, and anyone who lives there knows it. The streets down near the canal and the Tame collect the damp and take the cold air draining off the higher ground. The streets up towards Yew Tree Lane and the golf club are more exposed, catch the wind, and frost earlier than the bottom of town. Neither end is a good place to leave a car standing from October to March — they are just bad in slightly different ways.

Two Ends of Town, Two Versions of the Same Problem
Dukinfield rises from the Tame. That is the whole of the local geography and it is enough to create two different winters within one town.
At the bottom, near the canal and the river, the ground is low and the air is damp. Cold air draining off the higher ground settles there on still nights, and the water alongside keeps humidity up regardless of what the temperature is doing. Cars kept down that end sit in damp air for months.
At the top, up towards Yew Tree Lane, Newton Wood and the golf club, the ground is higher and more open. It catches the wind coming across from the Pennines, frosts earlier than the bottom of town and crosses the freezing point more often through a season. Cars kept up there get the repeated freeze-thaw instead.
Damp corrodes. Repeated freezing works mechanically on paint edges, seals and any seam already holding moisture. Between them they account for most of what goes wrong with a vehicle left standing over a winter — and a domestic garage at either end of Dukinfield does very little about either, because an unheated garage tracks the outside conditions closely and simply holds them around the car.

What Is Included in Every Car Storage Plan
Every vehicle entering Pitstop 66 is taken through a documented 8-step preparation process. Nothing is rushed. Specifically, the routine protects the car from arrival through to collection.
The eight steps are:
- Condition photography — every panel and surface recorded on arrival
- Key tagging — keys logged, tagged, and securely stored
- Interior protection — seats, wheel, and controls covered
- A meticulous wash — road salt and brake dust fully removed
- Tyre pressure increase — pressures raised to prevent flat-spotting
- Complete air drying — every trace of moisture removed
- Battery and fluid checks — levels inspected and recorded
- Brake disc clean — surfaces cleaned to prevent seizing
Once inside, a breathable cover is fitted and an automatic battery conditioner is connected. Daily visual checks then follow. Consequently, the vehicle remains in pristine condition throughout its stay.
What We Store for Dukinfield Owners
Five minutes over the Tame, whatever it is.
CLASSIC CAR WINTER STORAGE DUKINFIELD
Older cars have more places for damp to get in and less modern paint protecting them. Period rubber hardens and cracks with repeated freezing, chrome pits in sustained humidity, and cellulose and early two-pack finishes let moisture through to the metal underneath. Every classic gets salt removal, full air dry, battery conditioning and brake disc treatment through the eight-step intake, then goes into a dehumidified bay for the season.
LUXURY & PERFORMANCE WINTER STORAGE DUKINFIELD
Individually allocated bays with breathable covers, battery conditioners and continuous CCTV. Full on-site insurance from the day the car arrives. The building was purpose-built for storing vehicles rather than converted from something else, and you are welcome to come and look at it before deciding — five minutes each way makes that easy.
EVERYDAY & SECOND VEHICLE STORAGE DUKINFIELD
Second cars, work vehicles out of season, campers, cars awaiting sale and vehicles belonging to people working away all spend winters here. Same building, same dehumidified environment, same daily checks and the same insurance as everything else.
MOTORBIKE WINTER STORAGE DUKINFIELD
Bikes have far more exposed metal than cars, so damp and salted roads hit them harder — chains, callipers, fasteners and engine casings take it directly. Dehumidified indoor storage with battery conditioning, daily checks and full insurance means it comes out ready to ride rather than needing a fortnight of work first.

Winter Car Storage Dukinfield — Frequently Asked Questions
About five minutes. Pitstop 66 is in Stalybridge, just over the Tame — roughly two miles, same borough, no motorway. For most of Dukinfield it is a shorter run than the weekly shop.
Yes, and it is worth doing given how close it is. Call 0161 464 7494 and arrange a time so someone is free to show you round properly. Seeing where the car will actually stand tells you more than a website can.
Secure Indoor Storage is £150 a month, down from £165. Dehumidified Indoor Storage is £200, down from £225. Full season October to March, or monthly if you prefer. No hidden charges.
Both include a secure indoor bay, breathable cover, battery conditioner, 24/7 CCTV, daily checks and full insurance. Dehumidified adds active humidity control to the bay. For anything with original paint, chrome or period trim, or anything you would be annoyed to see deteriorate, take the dehumidified option. For a modern everyday car the secure indoor option is usually fine.
Most garages feel dry because they keep rain off, which is not the same thing. An unheated garage tracks the outside temperature closely and holds the same air with less ventilation to move it on. Down near the canal that means damp sitting around the car for months. Up towards Yew Tree it means the temperature crossing freezing over and over. A garage manages neither — stable dry air is what actually changes the outcome.
October or early November, before the local roads and the climbs towards Stalybridge and Mossley get salted properly. Bringing it in before it has been on salted roads means the intake wash deals with ordinary road dirt rather than salt already sitting against the paint. Spaces fill from September.
