Stalybridge sits where the Tame valley narrows as it runs up into the Pennines. The moors start immediately above the town — Wild Bank and Harridge Pike on one side, the Brushes valley and its chain of reservoirs behind. The Huddersfield Narrow Canal runs through the middle. It is a good place to live and a demanding place to leave a car standing for five months.
The valley narrows, which means cold air coming off the moors above is funnelled down through the town rather than dispersing. The reservoirs and the canal keep humidity up. The roads climbing out towards Mossley and Carrbrook are salted early because they need to be, and that salt comes back down into town on every vehicle that uses them. Frost, damp and salt, in a valley that concentrates all three.
None of this is a revelation to anyone who lives here. What is worth saying is that we are dealing with the identical conditions, on the same street, every winter. When a car arrives in November carrying salt off the Carrbrook road, we know exactly what has been on that road because we drove it too. The eight-step intake process exists in the form it does because of what Stalybridge winters actually do, not because of what winters do in general.

What Is Included in Every Car Storage Plan
Every vehicle entering Pitstop 66 is taken through a documented 8-step preparation process. Nothing is rushed. Specifically, the routine protects the car from arrival through to collection.
The eight steps are:
- Condition photography — every panel and surface recorded on arrival
- Key tagging — keys logged, tagged, and securely stored
- Interior protection — seats, wheel, and controls covered
- A meticulous wash — road salt and brake dust fully removed
- Tyre pressure increase — pressures raised to prevent flat-spotting
- Complete air drying — every trace of moisture removed
- Battery and fluid checks — levels inspected and recorded
- Brake disc clean — surfaces cleaned to prevent seizing
Once inside, a breathable cover is fitted and an automatic battery conditioner is connected. Daily visual checks then follow. Consequently, the vehicle remains in pristine condition throughout its stay.

Secure Indoor Storage is £150 a month, down from £165. Dehumidified Indoor Storage is £200, down from £225. Full season from October to March, or monthly if you prefer. No hidden charges.
Both include a secure indoor bay, breathable cover, battery conditioner, 24/7 CCTV, daily checks and full insurance. Dehumidified adds active humidity control to the bay. Given the damp in this valley, it is the one we would recommend for anything with original paint, chrome or period trim, or anything you would be upset to see deteriorate. For a modern everyday car the secure indoor option is usually fine.
Two ways. Practically, there is no journey — you bring it down, sort the paperwork and walk home if you want to. Less obviously, we are working in the same winter you are. The frosts, the damp off the reservoirs and the salt on the Carrbrook road hit this building too. The process we use was built around these specific conditions rather than winter in general, because this is where we have always operated.
October or early November, before the roads out towards Mossley and Carrbrook are salted properly. Bringing it in before it has been driven on salted roads means the intake wash is dealing with ordinary road dirt rather than salt that has already been sitting against the paint for weeks. Spaces fill from September.
